The event was presided over by Dr. Kol Pheng, Senior Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Founder and President of PUC, accompanied by Dr. Chea San Chanthan, PUC Chancellor; Prof. Chiv Ratha, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics; Dr. Neau Vira, Associate Dean, Faculty of Education; Prof. Chin Malin, Assistance Dean, Faculty of Social Science & International Relations; Mr. Long Kimheng, Director of International Relations Program; Prof. Khun Sopheap, PUC-Yonezawa Rotary Scholarship Coordinator and staff.

In the very warm welcome speech of Dr. Kol Pheng, he profoundly thanked the club for support of Cambodian students, particularly PUC’s students, to assist their academic life. He also highlighted that

with this scholarship they can also help families of students and Cambodian society. “We, Cambodians, felt sorry for the recent natural disasters in Japan, the earthquake and tsunami, and PUC had celebrated a religious ceremony for those losing their life in such a terrible natural event joined by Japanese ambassador,” he continued.

However, in the speech by the president of Yonezawa Rotary Club, he said over the last three years Yonezawa Rotary Club has awarded scholarships to ten students; however, this year there were 34 students who applied for scholarships. As a result four students were awarded scholarships: Mr. Yim Tythono, majoring in law; Mr. Sun Kim, majoring in international relations; Mr. Yann Aoudourm, majoring in political science and Mis. Choeur Chanpisey, majoring in accounting. He continued to stress that the main selection criterion is based on GPA, commitment, standard of living, different subjects and future goals. “We were very happy to see the progression of the last awardees and we hope these awardees will put their effort to earning knowledge to being resourceful,” he said, “we felt very sad to see the flooding disaster happen in Cambodia which caused about 156 lives to die.”

Finally, PUC hosted members and delegates with the firm hope to continue the cooperation and provision of scholarships to PUC’s students.
