On September 28, 2010, Pannasastra University of Cambodia (PUC) in cooperation with Arbitration Council Foundation (ACF) have set up a new special legal first ever mock arbitration performance in Cambodian. This event took place at the Pannasatra University of Camobidia (No. 184, Norodom Blvd) at Srey Dim Hall. Prof. Kong Phallack, Dean of PUC Law and Public Affairs and Arbitrator of Arbitration Council warmly offered a opening remark. Prof. Kong Phallack said that “this event was the first legal historical ever mock arbitration in Cambodia”. He also Added that “students could learn and observed for their future career”. and then PUC law students performed a hearing mock arbitration which involved concerning two issues, namely “payment of maternity leave” and “menl allowance for over-time work”. The performance was designed to separate the roles: Arbitration Council’s arbitrators, employer(s), employee(s), and an official of the Secretariat of the Arbitration Council. This carry on will inspire law students to elaborate their knowledges to the public, and also it is great chance for them to strengthen their skills in field of law and public affairs. The purpose of this performance is to illustrate to the public how arbitration council settles the labor disputes in Cambodia. Following the mock arbitration, Commissioner Michael Gay, an experienced Australian arbitrator, offered his comments to performance, and he has admired students for their performance and gave a presentation on the comparative systems of labor dispute resolution of Cambodia and Australia. This presentation went after by a question and answer session. Following closing remard, this event will be expected to happen again in the future. At the end of the event, there are certificates aware celebration from Prof. Kong Phallack, Dean of PUC Law and Public Affairs and Arbitrator of Arbitration Council and Commissioner Michael Gay, an experienced Australian arbitrator to students for their effort.
